Reservations are now open & our doors will be open from 7th August. Please read the information provided below!

The Moorcock Inn has acres of beautiful moorland at its front door, and offers great views over the Ryburn Valley from the garden. Inside, it’s a cosy pub, with oak beams, wood-burning stoves and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Our 2-acre plot is slowly but surely being tamed to provide an organic kitchen garden, with select local small-holders providing much of the rest. The menu is ever-changing with the seasons and cooked over fire.

We also offer a weekly, local grocery service, and takeaway food. Further information is provided below, and the link to the respective websites are here:

Food

We offer an ever evolving seasonal menu, highlighting traditional homesteading techniques, cooking over fire and the sourcing of high-quality local, seasonal and wild ingredients.

We use meat from a select few local small-holdings that are mostly work with the Rare Breed Survival Trust. We purchase whole animals, some of which are reared specifically for us. We prefer mature animals (for example mutton over lamb) and dry-age and butcher the meat in-house. The fish and seafood we serve comes only from native waters, fished only from day boats, and caught using sustainable methods (never from trawlers). Some days, as a result of rough weather, some small boats don't go out to sea. On these days we simply serve less fish. Our vegetables are organic, sometimes home-grown and sometimes foraged. We serve wild mushrooms when we can, and cook whatever benefits from it, over wood and house made charcoal.

Our plates are often not constructed as individual starters or main courses, therefore we encourage sharing a range of dishes. Although, of course this varies, a broad marker of how much to order is 4-5 plates per couple/ 8 plates for 4 guests. Please speak to us about this, we're always very happy to advise!

Not ready to dine in with us yet? See below for information on our grocery service and our takeaway food!

Drinks are no afterthought here. We offer a keg selection of ever-changing quality craft beers, and four cask beers- of which two regularly rotate. Plus, a large selection of Belgian beers- particularly of the most food-friendly styles, and a few iconic names.

Our wine list is relatively large, and largely natural, with wines chosen for their purity, freshness, balance and occasional quirkiness. It's a selection that is always growing and changing and we're always happy to help you to navigate it, either to find something familiar or try something new. It features some classic regions and grape varieties, and some lesser known also represented. They all have in common; being hand made by small producers, farmed organically or biodynamically, receive minimal intervention in the vineyard and have few or no added preservatives.

We serve at least twelve wines by the glass- a few we daren't remove(!), but there is always plenty of opportunity to try something new.

A mention also, for alcohol-free drinks. We go way beyond offering sugary soft-drinks for non-drinkers, those taking a break, or designated drivers. Our alcohol-free craft beer selection is comprehensive, from lagers, to hazy IPAs, to coffee oatmeal stouts. Plus, we offer a range of alcohol-free aperitif, 'spirits' and digestifs.

Introducing our new Friday afternoon opening hours (not yet in place... Date TBC!!)!

Additional Services

Groceries

Click here to visit our site for our weekly grocery service. Developed during ‘lock-down’ and continuing now into our reopening and beyond! It’s a service that delivers a quality version of the essentials, made with great local produce- you can order our freshly baked sourdough loaves, house made butter, local fresh milk, organic Lancashire eggs and amazing farmhouse cheeses from Yorkshire cheese legends- The Courtyard Dairy.

Our meat products include house made sausages & bacon, ham and grass-fed beef products. All of the meat is from local high-welfare small-holdings, with whom we have close relationships. We work through the whole animals and ensure nothing is wasted. We offer various ready meals, made in-house, and lots of quality organic vegetables from around the UK. We also offer sustainably caught fish on a weekly basis- of a quality that is hard to find, from our suppliers Wild Harbour and Kernow Sashimi.

Each week the grocery site is updated, and orders open each Sunday evening at 6pm. Orders close at the end of each Tuesday, and your goods will be ready for collection or delivery on Friday! The pub is open from 12pm for collection, and we will offer various delivery slots.

Takeaway

From Friday 14th August we are opening a takeaway shop- Al’s Fried Chicken! A concise menu of Al’s legendary fried chicken, sides, ice creams, beers and natural wine. For the perfect night in! For online ordering and collection Fridays and Saturdays 5.30-8.30pm! More details to follow soon!

Also.... On Friday 31st July and Saturday 1st August we are serving a second week of Chinese Takeaway!

Ceramics

All of the plates and other ceramics for the pub are made from our own handmade, ash-glazed stoneware, using the ash from the wood-ovens and grills, by Alisdair. At the moment we are experimenting with other waste materials from the kitchen using aluminium (from tin foil), bones, and mollusc and egg shells to make glaze ingredients. We will be in a position to offer these for homes and businesses in the near future.
